Sons Of Sailors

Sons of Sailors Lyrics

Got my finger to the wind
Like sons of sailors do
Waiting for a new direction
Something new to crash into
I don’t trust a knot I didn’t tie
Cause I was taught by the best
Stay strong true untangled
Chase the Sun to a sliver in the west

Give me the stars the moon
The salt upon my lips

Now I’m flying with the wind
Left the stormy sea behind me
Rising up to begin
To begin to live again

Left the Bay of Biscay
To Shannon’s river port
I just knew I had to get away
From the life that I ignored

Well the hands at the helm
Led me straight into the tempest
Well, those same hands I held
Into the deep, the deepest rest

Give me the stars the moon
The salt upon my lips

Now I’m flying with the wind
Left the stormy sea behind me
Rising up to begin
To begin to live again

I wondered why I stayed so long
Riding the storm that nearly killed me
Now I’m feeling so much stronger
Like the sons of Sailors do

I Went to See My Molly (Trad.) Josh McAlexander & Chris O

It was a real joy to be able to sing this traditional folk song with Josh. It is a very old folk song originating in Britain, but this version was collected in North Carolina. It was inspired by a field recording of Lee Monroe Presnell, in 1951, who was born in 1876…. a variation of the traditional song “William and Nancy” with William being a soldier in this version. I arranged the last verse based on a number of different versions found in England and America.

Vocals and Upright Bass ~ Josh McAlexander

Vocals, dulcimers, dobro and beat ~ Chris O
